Jiari Shakuhachi Bamboo Flute – Mumon Series | Keys 1.8 D4 | Zapata Signature
From the bamboo forests to the stage, this is our motto that bets on the sound, look and feel of a high quality instrument ready for the professional stage.
The Mumon Series - Zapata Signature represents our premier collection of classical shakuhachi flutes, meticulously handcrafted from the finest selection of thick-walled, root-end bamboo. Each instrument is chosen for its superior resonance and is finished to preserve the elegant, organic aesthetic of its natural coloration.
This series is distinguished by the following hallmarks of master craftsmanship:
-
Signature Koumori Inlay Utaguchi: A precision-engineered mouthpiece inlay, exclusive to the Zapata seal, ensuring optimal airflow and tonal clarity.
-
Refined Jiari Bore: The interior is treated with a specialized Jiari finish, utilizing a proprietary blend of natural materials and traditional lacquering urushi (red).
-
Acoustic Precision and Balanced Resonance: This meticulous coating process results in an instrument of exacting pitch and a vibrant, balanced intonation across bass, middle, and high registers. The internal bore calibration unlocks a complete range of 3 full registers (37 distinct notes), while simultaneously providing a protective seal for lifelong durability.
-
Exotic Makino Bamboo (Phyllostachys makinoi): Crafted from imported Taiwanese Makino bamboo, this instrument boasts a remarkably dense fiber structure and a vibrant golden-amber hue. Surpassing the traditional Japanese Madake in sheer structural robustness, impact resistance, and acoustic projection, its high-density grain matches the exceptional weight and resonance of the finest Colombian bamboos.
- Mumon Ryu Limited Edition: Precision low-relief engraving of the Mumon Ryu kanji on the upper front body of the bamboo. This distinct hallmark highlights its unique style and exceptional stage response tailored for the professional Mumon performance tradition.
Benefits of a Koumori uta-guchi Cutting-edge precision mouthpiece:
- Its inverted triangular blowing area offers a distinctive timbre to the blow of the air in the inlaid design area.
- By having a wide mouthpiece design and with a closed but deep circumference, it allows you to accurately obtain notations in its three registers, as well as to play with blowing effects, angles and directions to create different harmonics along its blowing edge.
- Exclusive design found only in the Zapata sensei flutes.
High-Altitude Provenance and Natural Curing: Grown at elevations between 1,000 and 1,400 meters and subjected to severe thermal fluctuations for nearly three years, this Taiwanese Makino bamboo develops an exceptional fiber density and structural rigidity. Following harvest, it undergoes a rigorous three-year natural curing and drying process before being meticulously handcrafted into a concert-grade instrument optimized for studio recording and advanced performance.
Superior Mechanical and Acoustic Properties: The unparalleled structural integrity and impact resistance of Phyllostachys makinoi mirror the legendary load-bearing properties utilized in heavy-duty architectural construction. This dense, high-performance cellular matrix delivers an extraordinary acoustic projection, deep foundational resonance, and instantaneous note response across all registers.
Root-End Balance and Organic Aesthetics: The instrument achieves a natural, organic equilibrium derived entirely from the weighted density of its integrated root-end section. The striking natural geometry and serration of the root nodes are masterfully preserved, conferring a unique and distinguished aesthetic signature to each handcrafted piece.
