The Nenashi Series 根無し (meaning ‘rootless’) is our dedicated line of jinashi bamboo flutes for practice and study. Crafted from select bamboo sections near the root end, these instruments offer exceptional resonance, lightness, and balance. Designed for durability and ease of play, the Nenashi series is the ideal companion for travel and extended sessions, providing a responsive and comfortable experience for every practitioner.

Unmatched playability and exquisite design. Each Nenashi flute offers the choice of a traditional natural-cut mouthpiece or our signature precision-inlaid insert, both meticulously crafted for flawless articulation and rich resonance. The accurately tuned bore provides a bright, captivating tone across two and a half full registers, while ergonomic finger holes ensure a comfortable and effortless playing experience.

Our new generation of Practice professional Jinashi shakuhachi offer internal coating technology of a thin inner layer of non-toxic varnish that protects the instrument and allows for better internal cleaning, preventing pathogens that saliva or other external agents can cause from lodging inside the tube, while preserving its rustic texture that keeps its authentic natural sound, a unique traditional earthy, dirty and bass oriented tone with medium and subdued treble.

The outer body can also be varnished or can maintain its natural texture and be waxed and polished, thus preserving the unique tones and color of Colombian bamboo. This series of flutes truly offers a perfect resonance and the naturalness of the bamboo sound in a breath. 

This bamboo has been grown at 1000-1400 meters altitude and strengthened by different temperatures for almost 3 years. Cured and dried for 2 years before the flute is handcrafted in a delicate and patient process personally performed by master Zapata to obtain a flute ready for concert, studio recording or home training practice.

The quality of this bamboo is characterized by the fact that it has been used by the Colombian construction industry for many years in large-scale architectural constructions due to its physical-mechanical properties as a renewable alternative to conventional materials.

This flute has a natural balance and very easy to hold given by the lightness of a not so thick bamboo walls without root end.

This flute includes: Certificate of authenticity, blowing and notation instructions sheet (fingering chart according to the key of the flute), clothing bag made of resistant fabric to protect the instrument (cloth bag is delivered according to availability, reference photo). Flute stand sold separately.
